Larky Loo

It has been way too long since I last wrote about our foster dogs. I have been meaning to keep a journal of each dog we've fostered along the way and have failed miserably, so here is my first attempt!

Miss Lark von Lindberg

Larky came into our lives shortly before Thanksgiving of last year and she wasn't exactly thankful to be here. At 3 months old, Lark was petrified of me, the dogs, the car, everything. She wouldn't come near me for the first 24 hours and peed all over if you just happened to look at her the wrong way.

As with all of our fosters Lark didn't have a great start in life. She was dumped at the Santa Monica shelter at just 6 weeks old and then adopted by a college kid who wasn't thinking straight. Since she wasn't potty trained, she spent all day in the apartment bathroom until he came home. This kid couldn't seem to potty train her, she had started barking incessantly, and he suspected his roommates were mistreating her so he did the right thing and contacted Westside. Matt, the transport angel, picked Lark up and took her home. She naturally puked all over his car and cried the entire way.

The first few weeks with Lark were rough. She barked at EVERYTHING. I am not exaggerating, people, the dogs, trees, the birds in the sky, the kibble in her bowl, blades of grass blowing in the wind, she barked at it all. We were having our Christmas picture taken and just couldn't leave her out but she barked at the photographer the entire time so almost every picture is of her with her mouth open.

5 months later she has had 3 applications and 1 meet and greet. It is evident she doesn't possess an ounce of shepherd which makes it difficult for her to be adopted. We have speculated that she is everything from an American Dingo, to Jindo, to Shiba Inu, so we call her our little Jingo. Lark is on her way to being a well adjusted, loving, happy go lucky pup.  Lark has learned to love to snuggle, swim, chase Carmen, wrestle with Dunne and Paisley, and enjoys sleeping on our bed. She is very smart yet stubborn and earned herself the nickname "Fish" during her leash training days. Picture a fish on the end of a hook and that was Lark, a lot of wiggling! We love this little girl and dread the day she finds her forever home.
